Story Series: Port Cask Finish Straight Rye Whiskey

Our straight rye whiskey is our best 6-year-old barrels from our sister distillery here in North Carolina. This whiskey is a grain-to-glass local product, showcasing what the ideal climate of the Piedmont region of North Carolina can do to whiskey as it ages. The moderate climate with large swings in daily temperature year-round forces the barrels to breathe deeper and more often, allowing the whiskey to penetrate the grooves at a higher rate. Then, after aging 6+ years in a new charred white oak barrel, the whiskey is transferred to a newly dumped port wine barrel, where it continues to age for 12-18 month. It then incorporates the rich depth of port wine that lives long into the finish. Once it reaches its fullness of character, it’s then bottled for your enjoyment.
